Kasol is a popular spot known for its vibrant cafes and colorful markets, but it’s also a haven for trekkers of all levels. Beginners and experienced trekkers alike flock to Kasol to explore its many trails. One of the most popular treks is Sar Pass, despite its misleading name. Although it’s called a pass, it’s actually a ridge crossing. This trek offers a variety of terrains, from meadows to forests, villages, and snow-capped mountains. Covering about 45 kilometers over five days, the Sar Pass Trek is a challenging but rewarding adventure. Starting from Kasol in the Parvati Valley, the trail passes through Grahan Village, known for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning scenery. Further along the trail, you’ll come across Min Thach, offering breathtaking views of the Chandrakhani ranges, and Nagaru camp, perfect for witnessing beautiful sunsets. The highlight of the trek is reaching Sar Pass at 4,222 meters, where you’ll be treated to stunning panoramic views. This moderate trek requires a decent level of fitness, and alcohol is not allowed. With no cellular network, it’s a chance to disconnect and enjoy nature with your tribe. Trekatribe offers daily departures for the Sar Pass Trek from Kasol between May 1st and June 15th. Join us for this thrilling adventure!

DAY 01: Kasol – Grahan (4-5 Hours)

Time : 8:00 am : On the first day of our trek, we start from Kasol and head towards Grahan village. Grahan is located about 8 kilometers away, following the Grahan Nala which flows into the Parvati River at Kasol. The trek starts off fairly easy, with only the last 3 kilometers being a steep climb. As we hike through a dense forest alongside a stream, we’re treated to clear views of the snow-capped mountains of the Pir Panjal Range. Grahan is a remote village inaccessible by roads, featuring traditional Pahadi houses built in the Kath-Khuni architectural style using wood and stone. This part of the Parvati Valley remains untouched and retains its rustic charm. We spend the night in a cozy homestay or camps in Grahan, preparing for the more challenging journey ahead.

DAY 02: Grahan – Ming Thach (4-5 Hours)

We start our day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a nearly 5-hour trek. Our destination for the day is Ming Thach, which translates to a meadow in the local Pahadi dialect. This 7-kilometer journey takes us through stunning rolling meadows, often used by sheepherders during the summer months. The trail is steep and passes through a dense forest before opening up to the lush green meadows. From Ming Thach, we can catch a glimpse of our next destination, Nagaru, and the final point of Sar Pass, situated high up on the mountain.

DAY 03: Ming Thach – Nagaru (4-6 Hours)

Today, we ascend to our highest campsite on the trek, reaching almost 12,500 feet above sea level! Although the trek is short, the steep trail and the deep snow slow us down and make it tiring. As the sun sets over Nagaru, the temperature drops drastically, so it’s advisable to have an early dinner and rest to conserve energy. However, the breathtaking view of Manikaran town and other villages in the Parvati Valley, shining far below in the valley, makes all the challenges of the day worthwhile!

DAY 04: Nagaru – Sar Pass – Bishkari Thach (6-8 Hours)

Today marks the highly anticipated day we’ve all been waiting for on this challenging journey. We depart from Nagaru early in the morning and set our sights on reaching Sar Pass, situated at an impressive 13,800 feet above sea level! The ascent is steep, with the trail covered in snow, but the breathtaking views of Tosh Valley accompanying us along the way make it all worthwhile. Standing atop Sar Pass feels like stepping into another world, with mesmerizing vistas of the Parvati Valley region stretching out before us. From the pass, one can even enjoy a thrilling snow slide for 2 kilometers, taking necessary precautions, of course! Our campsite for the night is at Bishkari Thach, a picturesque meadow nestled amidst a beautiful rhododendron forest.

DAY 05: Bishkeri Thach – Barshaini – Kasol (4-5 Hours)

Today’s descent is a breeze, and knowing it’s the last day of the trek makes it even more satisfying! We traverse through lush grasslands, dense forests, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas as we head towards Pulga, a cherished village in the Parvati Valley. Crossing over the Parvati River, we then trek down to Barshaini. From Barshaini, our team will safely escort you back to Kasol, concluding the trip on a sweet and memorable note!
